‘Really disappointing’ – Harry Kane rues latest missed chance in top-four race

Harry Kane has admitted that he and his Tottenham teammates are extremely disappointed at missing the opportunity to extend their lead in the top-four race, just days after being dumped out of the FA Cup.

Spurs would have been one home tie against Blackburn Rovers away from a Wembley semifinal had they beaten Sheffield United last week but they put in an uninspiring display and fell to a 1-0 defeat to an understrength Blades side.

They had a chance to bounce back on Saturday and tighten their grip on fourth place after Newcastle had fallen to a 2-0 loss to Manchester City earlier in the day.

However, the Lilywhites failed to capitalise at the Molineux Stadium as Adama Traore’s 83rd-minute strike saw Wolves take all three points.

To make matter worse, Liverpool thumped Manchester United 7-0 on Sunday to close the gap to Spurs, with the Reds now sitting just three points behind Antonio Conte’s men with a game in hand.

Kane admitted that it had been a difficult few days but insisted that there is still a long way to go in the race for Champions League qualification.

The 29-year-old told The Daily Mail after the loss against Wolves: “It’s been tough, a really disappointing week.

“All we can do is look forward now. We have 12 or 13 games now to push for that top-four place.

“The games come around quick and we have to look to the next one.

“If we’d won we would have been in a really good spot with the last third of the season to play.

“There’s still going to be points dropped and we need to concentrate on ourselves and finish as strong as possible.”

Liverpool not only closed the gap with us but also improved their goal difference considerably on Sunday.

The nature of the win will also give Jurgen Klopp’s men plenty of confidence and I believe it now makes them the favourites to clinch fourth place this season.
