‘Really intelligent’ – Conte gives positive verdict on Spurs academy graduate

Speaking to SpursPlay after Tottenham Hotspur’s friendly against OG Nice, Antonio Conte has praised youngster Harvey White for another impressive display.

White is a fantastic example of the success the Tottenham Hotspur academy can achieve when nurturing players, and as one of the youth players closest to Antonio Conte’s plans, it comes as no surprise that White has enjoyed a positive mid-season break with the first team.

The 21-year-old is highly experienced with the Tottenham youth sides, and though he has just two first-team appearances to his name (Transfermarkt), all signs point to that changing in the immediate future.

While 11 first-team players left for the World Cup in Qatar, the rest of the squad stayed behind at Hotspur Way and benefited from extra training sessions with Conte and his staff.

There have also been mid-season friendlies organised, with the first team facing Motherwell two weeks ago, Peterborough U21s, and French side Nice last night.

The games allowed White to feature for the first team, taking on an unfamiliar false nine role. It’s a role which has seen White get on the scoresheet, and a task he was more than happy to carry out for Conte (Football.London).

Now, Conte has praised the youngster for his performance in the 1-1 draw with Nice, and the attributes he has displayed.

He said: “Harvey White played like a number nine, he is a young player that I think is really, really intelligent. He can play in any role and I think the young players also deserved to have a night like this, for the Academy of Tottenham. It was a positive night.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I’ve been really impressed with Harvey White during this mid-season break and he is surely knocking on the door for some first-team action now. It’s going to be a long second half of the season and the schedule will be intense, so we will need all the cover we can get, and White’s versatility would make him a valuable player to at least have on the bench.
