‘Really keen on’ – Journalist reveals key variable Spurs will consider in new signings

Journalist Dean Jones has revealed that Tottenham will pay close attention to the personalities of any new players they bring into the club going forward.

Antonio Conte admitted this week he had a meeting with the club’s hierarchy to discuss his evaluation of the squad and what the club needs going forward.

On the back of the meeting, reports indicate that Spurs are now set to target a central midfielder, an attacker and a right wing-back this month, before pursuing a left-sided centre-back in the summer.

Jones has now revealed that Tottenham’s managing director of football Fabio Paratici and Conte will not only look at footballing characteristics of their new signings and how they fit into the system but will also consider the players’ character off the pitch.

He explained that the club are keen to ensure they bring in the right sort of personalities as part of their rebuild.

Jones said on The Football Terrace YouTube channel: “It’s a really difficult time to overhaul the squad, which is what Tottenham need. So they’re having to really consider not just the level of player that comes in, but the personality as well.

“It’s something that they’re really keen to get right at this point and make sure that this is the beginning of a new phase that’s successful.

“For all their relative success, they haven’t had any actual success, and they think a big part of that is making sure there’s a togetherness in this side that Conte is trying to build.”

After the club’s apparent error in not doing their due diligence on Tanguy Ndomebele, they would be keen to ensure not to make the same mistake again.

However, apart from the Frenchman, none of our signings over the last few years have been found lacking in terms of their work ethic or desire.

Perhaps, Conte also wants to ensure that the players we bring in have a winning mentality instead of being content with relative mediocrity.
