‘Really pleasing’ – Plymouth manager explains how Spurs starlet Alfie Devine is getting on

Plymouth Argyle boss Ian Foster has praised Alfie Devine for the performance he delivered in his debut for the club against Cardiff City on Saturday.

While there are a number of hugely talented players coming through the Tottenham academy at the moment, across various age groups, one can argue that Devine is perhaps the most exciting among the whole lot.

The 19-year-old was outstanding in Ange Postecoglou’s system during pre-season, demonstrating just why so many people at Hotspur Way are so excited about him.

The teenager looked a cut above in League One during his loan spell at Port Vale, with Spurs deciding to prematurely end the spell and allow the midfielder to test himself in the second tier at Argyle.

Alfie Devine is already impressing with Plymouth Argyle

Devine has had a bright start to his spell at the Home Park Stadium, registering an assist on his debut as the Championship outfit overcame Cardiff 3-1 at home.

Forster was delighted with what he saw from the on-loan Tottenham man and fellow debutant, Adam Forshaw, who joined the club last week from Norwich City.

The Pilgrims boss told the club’s official website about the pair: “They’ve been excellent because they’ve only had two days. Alfie’s had two days with us, Adam’s had one, [and they’ve taken in] an awful lot of information.

“It may be easier for Alfie in that he’s played for me previously, but Adam hasn’t. Adam and I had a couple of hours together yesterday afternoon, just going through how we want to play. To put in the performance that they both did is really pleasing.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While the likes of Jamie Donley, Dane Scarlett and Alfie Dorrington are all thought of quite highly at Hotspur Way, there is no doubt in my mind that Scarlett is the player that many at the club are the most excited about.

The club’s decision to end his spell at Port Vale and move him up a division suggests that they want to fast-forward his development as they see him as a potential first-team option for next season.
