‘Really special’ – Phil Foden labels Tottenham star as ‘one of the best’ he has seen

Manchester City forward Phil Foden has labelled Harry Kane as ‘one of the best’ and said he would even pick the Tottenham striker over Alan Shearer.

Foden, 21, was answering a series of questions as part of Amazon Prime’s football coverage, but was eventually handed a tough dilemma.

He was quizzed on who he would choose between Kane and former Newcastle man Shearer in their prime, but ended up siding with the current England captain and cited working with the Tottenham talisman on international duty as a ‘special’ honour.

He told Amazon Prime Video Sport’s YouTube channel: “Prime Kane. Yeah, because he’s my teammate I see him in training and he’s one of the best finishers that I’ve ever seen. So, obviously, just to play with him is really special.”

Kane has established himself as a modern great for England by scoring 48 goals in just 67 appearances for the Three Lions, which has placed him just five away from equalling Wayne Rooney’s record.

The impressive figure easily eclipses Shearer’s tally of 30 goals in 63 appearances, which the 28-year-old surpassed in November 2019 with a hat-trick against Montenegro.

Both Kane and Shearer are great strikers in their own right, but it says a lot about the former that Foden chose him. Obviously, it helps that Foden is Kane’s teammate on an international level and has been around him, but it still shows just how much the younger players look up to him.
