Recent opponent responds to alleged racist incidents at two separate matches against Spurs

According to a report in the Brighton and Hove Independent, three Brighton fans are facing bans for alleged racist incidents during recent matches at the Amex Stadium including their win against Spurs on Saturday.

The first of these incidents reportedly occurred when two individuals attending Brighton’s Under-23 fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, September 27 were ejected from the game for their behaviour.

The second incident is said to have happened in the recent Premier League clash when another individual was ejected out of the stadium.

The report claims both cases were reported directly by other Brighton supporters at those games, following which the necessary actions were taken.

The full details of the incidents were passed to Sussex Police, who are currently investigating the claims.

Brighton’s chief executive and deputy chairman Paul Barber issued a strong statement making it clear that any kind of discrimination has no place in a football ground or the local community.

The publication quoted Barber as saying: “It’s very hard to comprehend why some individuals think it’s acceptable to behave in this way, but we are very clear that neither Brighton & Hove Albion, nor the wider football community, will tolerate racism or discrimination at any time, in any form.

“It is very encouraging that in both incidents our stewards were alerted to this totally unacceptable behaviour by other Albion fans and, working with Sussex Police, our staff were able to take swift action, which hopefully will increase the chances of a conviction.

“We do not want people exhibiting any kind of discriminatory or anti-social behaviour inside our stadium, and I would like to thank those Albion fans for reporting the incidents to us as soon as they heard it.

“We would urge any fans confronted with similar discriminatory behaviour to report it immediately, either directly to a steward or via our anonymous hotline, and we will take strong action.”

Once the full investigation is complete, we will get a better idea of the kind of incidents that transpired. While this sort of behavior is certainly difficult to understand, it bodes well for the game that these people have reported by other fans, which indicates that the campaign to kick racism out of the game has made an impact.
