Redknapp backs Crouch for World Cup call-up

Harry Redknapp has claimed that Peter Crouch should make the plane for England’s squad for the World Cup.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker has scored 20 goals in 37 games for England and despite the fact he’s currently third in the pecking order at White Hart Lane, Redknapp feels that the 29-year-old deserves to be in Fabio Capello’s 23-man list.

“Crouch has to go to the World Cup,” Redknapp said.

“He seems to score every time he plays for England, he leads the line well, holds the ball up and wins every header.

“He gives you something completely different when games are tight.

“You can play long balls to him, he will win headers and other players to get around the second ball and open packed defences.

“I think both he and Jermain Defoe will go to the World Cup.”
