Redknapp claims one Spurs defender is getting ‘better and better’ under Conte

Jamie Redknapp has praised Eric Dier for his recent form, following Tottenham’s 6-2 win over Leicester City on Saturday.

Dier has been an ever-present in the middle of Tottenham’s back three since Antonio Conte arrived at the club, with the Italian even stating a little over a month after he took over that the 28-year-old can develop into one of the best centre-backs in the world (Daily Mail).

Many might have raised their eyebrows at those comments, given Dier’s inconsistency since his switch from midfield to centre-back, but the Tottenham star has proved his head coach right with his performances over the last 10 months.

Last week, the former Sporting Lisbon man earned a recall to the England squad after almost a two-year absence, with Gareth Southgate praising the defender’s form over the last 12 months (England football).

Redknapp told Sky Sports Premier League (7:50 pm, September 17, 2022) about the defender: “He seems to be getting better and better under Antonio Conte.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I have always been a big fan of Dier as I felt that he had all the attributes to evolve into a world-class centre-back.

Some of the criticism that came his way during the end of Mourinho’s time at the club, was extremely harsh and a lot of it was underserved.

I am delighted to see that he has turned a corner and is now finally fulfilling his potential in central defence.
