Redknapp excited by Bale progress

Harry Redknapp has once again come out in praise of Gareth Bale, admitting the 20-year-old is ‘getting better and better.’

Bale produced another fine performance in Saturday’s 2-0 win over Portsmouth, with a string of surging runs causing nightmares for the Pompey back four.

He added another assist to his post-Christmas tally, setting up Peter Crouch’s opener with a fine cross from the left.

And Redknapp was full of praise for the Welshman, who has quickly become one of the first names on the team-sheet with his recent form.

Redknapp told the Spurs Official Website, “Gareth is amazing. He’s such an athlete as well, terrific ability, great skill, he can do everything.

“He’s six-foot-one, has a great left foot, he can run all day, head it, pass it, cross it, dribble.

“He makes a run and then gets back and runs again. He’s got the capacity to keep making 60-yard runs and then make another, then another.

“He’s only a boy still as well really, that’s the key. Cliff Jones, one of the great players of the double team, who played for Wales many, many times, told me he thinks Gareth will be the first Welsh player to get 100 caps.

“If he stays clear of injury, he can only keep getting better.”
