Redknapp keen to keep striker at Spurs

Harry Redknapp - Tottenham Hotspur News

Harry Redknapp is determined to keep Emmanuel Adebayor at Spurs.

Adebayor’s loan deal ended following the conclusion of the Premier League campaign at the weekend and signed off with his 17th Premier League goal for Spurs when he netted in the 2-0 win against Fulham.

Ade has been a great signing for us, but we all know that his wages are a massive problem for us and all but rules out any chance of a permanent deal unless Manchester City heavily subsidise his wage packet. Harry admits himself that Adebayor is not wanted back at City, but there are other clubs out there who can offer more in wages than we can.

The player himself has expressed an interest in remaining at the Lane, but it looks as if this one will be decided in the boardroom. Hopefully a deal can be struck to bring him back for another term – hopefully with us in the Champions League if Bayern Munich can do us a favour at the weekend.

“He was only a loan and his loan is up,” Redknapp told the press.

“It is up to the chairman if we could loan him again. I would like to keep him, obviously. He has done great for us.

“But I don’t know. We don’t pay them wages – the only way we could do a deal was if the chairman did a clever deal like he did this year for him.”

“They don’t want him. They don’t want to see him ever again, if we are being honest,” he added. “They want him out of the way and that is why they let him go.”
