Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has admitted that Ledley King is a “special player” for the club.
The defender has battled against his knee problem to lead Spurs to a fourth-placed finish in the league this season, and book himself a place in Fabio Capello’s provisional World Cup squad.
To cap off a superb season, the Spurs skipper signed a new contract at White Hart Lane until 2012.
“I’m delighted with the news and he deserves it,” Redknapp told the club’s official site. “Ledley’s a great player, a great lad and a massive part of this club. I couldn’t be more pleased for him.
“He’s as good as anyone, he really is. He came back in for the big games at the end of the season and he was outstanding.
“How he can not train regularly and then play like he did against Tevez and Adebayor in the win at City defied logic. It was amazing.
“Ledley is right up there with the very best players in the country. He’s a special player for us.”
