Harry Redknapp has praised Kyle Walker after an impressive debut against Portsmouth on Saturday.

Walker was signed from Sheffield United in the summer, along with Kyle Naughton and deputised ably for the injured Vedran Corluka at right-back.

And the Spurs boss was pleased with what he saw from the 19-year-old, making his first Spurs appearance in front of the home fans.

“I was pleased for him. He was a bit nervous with it being his first game, but he came in and did well.

“He’s a bit like Gareth Bale, because he can run all day and he’s a good crosser, so we like him.”

  1. Only 19 and what a player we have hear…. he is the future, great signing and the prospect of him and bale playing down either flank WOW.
I thought that Kyle was absolutely superb against Portsmouth, he could not have wished for a better début, good in defence and really good going forward…. exciting times to be a spurs fan COYS !!

  2. Good time to blood the kid, against the worst team in the prem, with or without a 10 point deduction. Still, whoever you play you've got to produce the goods and although Corluka does an admirable job it's nice to think we've got a real attacking option down the right. I can forsee some great overlaps with lennon.

  3. I would prefer charlie on the right with lennon when lennon is back. charlie gives lennon the freedom to keep surging forward and not worry so much about tracking back and helping out with the defence.

    • I just feel that if Walker can grow into the class of Bale. we will have a very strong defending on both sides of the pitch. Now we have BAE and BALE on the left. Both of them are defenders who can both attack and defend. From the previous matches I just feel that BALE was not only fantastic going forward but also help out stop opposition's play from midfield.

  4. Niko tends to wander across the pitch leaving Charlie exposed and as a result of having no pace he is liable to get caught out of position. With Lennon in front of him Charlie is a different proposition. Walker did OK but no more
than that. Of course Redknapp will sing his praises after paying what he did for him. Time will tell.

  5. what i like about redknapp is the signings he made. The credit probably shouldn't go to him alone but also his assistants and scouting team, which he brought here with him. It will be interesting to see how he 's going to improve our squad in the summer as our team now is quite strong on every position. Some people says when you buy new player you have to be sure that you are going to improve the squad in that position by at least 30%.

  6. It's good to keep the squad fresh with some young players pushing for places, if you aren't producing enough
through your own academy then you need to bring them in as we have with the likes of the 'Kyles' more recently and Bale before. I was at the game and Pompey tried to put him under pressure but apart from a few nerves early on, he grew as the game went on and looked very good by the end. Mind you, Pompey are no Utd at the
moment are they!! It was a good game to blood him in the league, thanks to Charlies injury.
