Redknapp reveals what some Spurs players have told him about Conte’s training sessions

Sky Sports pundit and former Spurs star Jamie Redknapp has spoken to some of the players in the current Tottenham Hotspur regime, and shared his thoughts on Antonio Conte’s training methods at the club.

Redknapp made 49 appearances for Spurs in two and a half years in North London (Transfermarkt) but still has strong links with those within the club, and these connections have allowed him an insight into how Conte operates.

The Italian put the Spurs players through a rigorous pre-season, in South Korea and back at Hotspur Way. The gruelling summer camp even had players vomiting due to exhaustion (Daily Mail), but the results appear to be paying off with the squad fitter than ever.

Conte is renowned for his no-nonsense approach to coaching. This summer was the first time the Spurs players experienced a pre-season with the Italian, and they likely won’t forget it.

Having spoken to some of the players at Tottenham Hotspur, Redknapp revealed what he has learned about the pre-season preparations under Conte during an appearance on the Sky Sports Football Podcast.

He said: “This is the first pre-season under Antonio Conte. For some of the players, I’ve spoken to some of the players, and it’s been a bit of an eye-opener, but they feel fit, they feel stronger than ever and that’s why I think Tottenham will be in the mix.

“I wouldn’t like to say they’ll challenge for the title just yet, but I’d be amazed if they don’t get a trophy this year. Everything is ready for Conte to get that trophy.”

Conte’s methods may be a little extreme, but the high-intensity approach is sure to stand our squad in good stead for the long season ahead. With four competitions to play in, and ambitions of challenging on all fronts, the players need to be in peak physical condition.

However tough the training may be, the players are clearly benefiting from it, and seem happier for it, too. With a strong, happy team and fitness levels improving all the time, Spurs are well-placed to bring home some silverware this year.
