Harry Redknapp has confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur will not be making an approach to sign Rio Ferdinand.

Reports in the press had suggested that the Tottenham boss would make a move for the out of form Manchester United defender in the summer, but Redknapp has now put the rumour to rest.

“There’s no chance of him leaving there if he has any sense,” said Redknapp.

“Unless someone knows something I don’t know, he won’t be coming here.

“I speak to him and send him messages. For me he’s still the best centre-half in the world, he’s that good. Everyone has a blip.”

United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said on Friday: “I’m not going into that because I read the stuff in the newspapers and I hear he is going to be dropped and all this but I don’t think you have access to my mind,”

“You can try and pick my teams but you will never pick my teams, try as much as you like.”

“I don’t know where it is coming from. I just have to put it down to the modern culture of humiliating people which you do very well and all the rest of it.

“I’m not getting into it.”
