Redknapp rules out double swoop for Spurs

Harry Redknapp has ruled out making a January move for Matthew Upson and David James.

Press reports had linked the pair with a possible switch to White Hart Lane, but Redknapp is happy with his goalkeeper and central defenders.

Redknapp said: “There is no truth whatsoever in that.

“He (Upson) is a terrific player, but it’s not fair, we keep getting linked with players and we’re really not looking to do anything in the window. I’d be very surprised if we do anything.

“He is a good player, but I don’t need another central defender, I’ve already got good centre-halves at the club.”

He added: “David James is a great goalkeeper, a fantastic goalkeeper – world class. But I’ve got a great goalkeeper here.

“David James is not going to want to be a No.2 anywhere, he is a No.1. (Heurelho) Gomes is fantastic and has been in great form.

“If David James wants to play for England at the World Cup he needs to play, not be a No.2, so that is not a possiblity.”
