“I’m not asking you to spend £20m on a player”

Scott Parker - Tottenham Hotspur News

Harry Redknapp is glad that he managed to persuade chairman Daniel Levy to part with £5million to sign Scott Parker.

Spurs are unbeaten since the midfielder moved to White Hart Lane from West Ham and Redknapp is delighted with his new charge.

“I said to the chairman, ‘I’m not asking you to spend £20m on a player, Scott Parker is the one I want at this club and he will make the difference’,” Redknapp told the press.

“I told him, ‘What Scott will give you on the pitch for the next four years is worth the weight in gold’.

“When Parker was at West Ham he was a proper midfield player, who tackled and had the lot really.

“But he is probably a better player now and the best time of his career is now.

“He was a big player at West Ham and he has taken that on.

“People don’t understand that it is not always about £25-30m superstars. Sometimes it is about having good characters and people in your club as well as having fantastic players.

“Parker is a proper old-school player who loves playing, gets on with it, wants to win, good person, lovely family, comes in every day and works hard.”
