Redknapp: Spurs pair need to increase their effort

Harry Redknapp has revealed that David Bentley and Roman Pavlyuchenko were not named in the Tottenham squad for the defeat to Wolves because of a lack of workrate.

“I’ve no need to bring anyone in – I’m happy with the squad,” said Redknapp.

“If somebody goes, then maybe we might find somebody we think can make a difference.

“I’m happy with the squad and we’ll get into Europe this year for sure.

“Roman Pavlyuchenko wasn’t on the bench today, nor was David Bentley. They’re fit. I left them off the bench.

“There was no incident, Bentley just played in a practice match and didn’t deserve to be on the bench today – nor did Pavlyuchenko.

“Other kids have worked hard all week to get in the team, put in 110 per cent. I have to send a message out to them as well sometimes.

“You ask players to come and work hard to get in the squad. It’s up to them to work hard to get on the bench and it’s up to them to work even harder to get in the team.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. If the old guard aren’t needed anymore sell them. Buy somebody shiny and new in January and you might, if you’re lucky, get someone you’ll actually use.

  2. A shake-up is needed in Spurs’ team at the moment as they are simply not performing and in the meantime we are losing valuable points that could cost us a place in Europe.I have said it all along that there is something wrong with the team.

  3. Harry says “it is just one of those days”. Fair enough, this is football, but unfortunately it seems to be happening TOO OFTEN, not just “one of those days”. It is high time we pull up our socks and start playing football properly and get the results we are capable of. Would we have been over praised when we trounced Wigan 9-1 and then got over complacent?

  4. Like it or not a home defeat to Wolves is relegation material not Europa or certainly not CL material. We have a big enough squad with some good players, but we need more quality. Crouch, Keane, Huddlestone and Bassong are either not ready or not good enough to be first team regulars in a team fighting for a Champions league place. If we are serious about finishing in the top four, then quality premiership ready players need to be brought in to play centre back, centre mid and up front. We cant keep waiting on Ledly, he’s had it, Woodgate is to unreliable and Bassong and Dawson are too inexperienced to play together. Huddlestone is too slow and can’t tackle and cant last 30mins without blowing out his arse and Crouch is a 7ft donkey who wins nothing in the air! If we need to sell in order to buy then so be it!

  5. one of those days? more like one of those seasons again. How often are we going to be lulled into thinking this is it only to lose to rubbish at home like Stoke and Wolves. I dunno anymore if we can even play properly like John says. What is properly for us anymore? Seriously hacked off, Harry. At least look as if you care.
