Redknapp on Spurs transfers

Harry Redknapp - Tottenham Hotspur Football News

Harry Redknapp has called on Daniel Levy to deliver him some signings at Spurs.

The latest twist came on Sunday when Redknapp revealed that Modric, who has been the subject of two failed bids from Chelsea this summer, pleaded with him not to be selected for the club’s 5-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Redknapp did pick the 25-year-old, but he put in an off-colour performance during his 65 minutes on the pitch.

With Chelsea’s initial £22million bid for the player coming in June, Modric’s future has been the source of speculation for 10 weeks now and it will only stop when the transfer window shuts on Wednesday night.

Redknapp admitted that the furore surrounding the former Dinamo Zagreb man has affected his team’s start to the season.

“There has been a feeling around the place that the place hasn’t been right since the start of pre-season,” Redknapp said.

“It has been a bit of a difficult period really.

“When people want to go it can be a problem but hopefully in another day or two when the window closes he will still be here and we’ll all move on.”

Redknapp has so far only added Emmanuel Adebayor and Brad Friedel to his first team squad, but has been linked with numerous other players.

Wilson Palacios’ impending departure to Stoke means Spurs could wrap up their long-running pursuit of Scott Parker from West Ham in the next 24 hours while Lassana Diarra has also been heavily linked with the club.

Redknapp has also been tipped to take Craig Bellamy from Manchester City and a new centre half could also be purchased before Wednesday night’s deadline.

The Spurs boss hopes any new arrivals will give his squad a lift.

“We will get one or two in in the window,” Redknapp said following yesterday’s 5-1 defeat to Manchester City.

“I have said to the chairman that the place needs a little lift now. I feel I have got everything I can out of them now. We made one real signing in Rafa (van der Vaart) last summer. We need to freshen the place up a bit.”

Explaining Modric’s actions yesterday, Redknapp said: “Luka came to me at 11.30 this morning and said to me: ‘I don’t feel my head is right today’. I said: ‘I feel you need to play today, Luka. I need you to play. You need to come and play’.”

  1. HARRY WAS WRONG IN SELECTING MODRIC HE KNEW FULL WELL THAT MODRIC WAS NOT CLEAR IN THE HEAD , THE RESULT OF THE MATCH WITH CITY PROVED HE WAS WRONG I KNOW NO ONE COULD HAVE FORCAST THE RESULT BUT HARRY`S HEAD WAS`NT RIGHT EITHER HE WEAKENED THE SIDE , CAHILL NEEDED , BELLAMY NEEDED , PARKER NEEDED , DIARRA NEEDED , ADEBAYOR NEEDED , IF HARRY AND LEVY ARE TO BE TAKEN FOR THEIR WORD THESE NEW PLAYERS WILL SOON GET THE SPURS IN THE WINNING WAY FOR SURE EH ! HARRY ,

    • modric had to play as there was no one else. problem for spurs is they lack real quality. bellamy is rubbish and would be a terrible signing. i agree that modric is a dick but replacing him with parker is a step backwards. we should sign parker but also need a player to give imagination and exitement to the place not just other sides cast offs. lennon and bale need competition and a new striker is needed alond side adebayor. plus please sell crouch and pav they are shit!

  2. Even if the window closes without selling Luka,he may not change his attitude for I think he feels he is being tortured, punished. Why not sell him and get other players just as good before the close of window?

  3. After yet another poor showing in the transfer window by Levy the Spurs fans are becoming pissed off with Levy’s transfer window antics and this must also be getting to the players. The fringe players must be laughing their heads off taking the money for doing nothing because of Levy’s price tags. Levy might be an astute business man but he is clueless in the transfer window. We have been desperate for new strikers since we qualified for the Champions League but he has done fuck all. Instead of building on what we achieved we chose to just stand still which was ridiculous. That bit more investment could have made us but he chose to go no further. Who knows where we would have been if we had more ambition.

Redknapp needs to stop just playing his favorites, learn to rotate the team properly, take some risks with players in the transfer market instead of all the shit targets he keeps aiming for and forget about chatting crap to everybody and concerntrate on the team.

  4. how do we know what the price tags are, redsknapps keeps opening his big gob and wants to sign all av joes how can parker, jcole, bellend make this club any better anybody who thinks

3-30yrs olds along other garbage he brought crouch ,keane

    are better then sandro,modric

  5. I don't think you can just blame Levy on this. He has to manage a club properly. He allowed Commoli and Ramos to go on a buying spree, than allowed harry to bring in his players. Now he has a situation where we have too big a squad – and the getting new players without getting rid of the old bunch means a huge financial risk. No on wants the likes of Bentley, Jenas, Crouch and even getting rid of Keane was a mission, Remember also that Spurs could have had Suarez but Harry said no.

  6. The defence is the problem and has been since last season. Need a couple of central defenders and a right back, my god we need a good right back. If I see that Corluka shuffling around the pitch like an old man again, I’ll go crazy.

He is sooo slow and predictable.

And too all you having a go at Harry all the time, wake up to yourselves.

  7. I will suggest just sell Modric now if Chelsea is coming back with 37M. We can give a chance to vdv, Krancjar, Pienaar or Even Dos Santos in that free role now that we have Parker in CDM. Ade and Defoe will be main strike force.
