Redknapp still wants Defoe to have op

Jermain Defoe

Harry Redknapp would prefer that Jermain Defoe still has his groin operation.

The Spurs striker has been booked in for surgery on Tuesday, but Defoe has apparently now stated that he feels fine after scoring in Tottenham’s 4-0 win against Young Boys last night.

Redknapp said: “Now he is saying he might not need it.

“We are in the hands of the medical people, but he said he did not feel anything tonight.

“I would rather he get it done, I don’t want it dragging on all year for him, there is a fortnight [international] break coming up and he could be fit in three weeks if he has it done on Tuesday, so it may be better to get it done. We will have to wait and see.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Get the op done for goodness sake. Playing with an injury is keeping someone fit out of the team. Defoe was the reason why Harry didn't take the injury Gomes off until half-time. He knew that Defoe would have to come off after 60 mins anyway and so he wanted to make sure that Gomes couldn't continue. 2 non-tactical substitutions – and it was lucky that we didn't need tactical changes in the end. Granted it was an excellent finish – the best one I have seen from Defoe so far – especially since it was left-footed.
