Redknapp urges Spurs to sign Premier League player who can become their new Modric

Former Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes Jack Grealish has the ability to become Spurs’ newest version of Luka Modric if they snap him up this summer.

Grealish continues to have an impressive campaign despite Aston Villa’s struggles as they desperately fight to avoid going straight back down to the Championship after winning promotion to the top flight last season.

Tottenham could have reportedly signed the 24-year-old for just £6million in the summer of 2018 (The Sun).

Grealish’s performances in the Premier League this season have highlighted Spurs’ failure to land him for what would now be considered to have been a bargain fee.

There have been reports that the North Londoners are willing to pay upwards of £50million to land Grealish this summer (Daily Star), although Aston Villa are said to be demanding closer to £80million for the midfielder (Mirror).

The 73-year-old told Alan Brazil’s Sports Breakfast Show on Thursday, 09:10 am: “Grealish for sure, that is what they lack.

“We had Luka [Modric] in there, Pochettino had Eriksen, people like that can make them play – people that can make them tick.

“They need to recruit a couple of players in the summer.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While I am a huge fan of Grealish, I would not necessarily say that he is the type of player we are lacking. In Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, we have two players who can move the ball well.

Unless we are planning on selling Ndombele, I cannot see us going for a midfielder of Grealish’s profile. In fact, the only way we are going to have the money to spend big on someone like the Aston Villa star or Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is if we sell the Frenchman for a big fee.
