Redknapp: We battered them

Aaron Lennon’s strike deep into injury time mainted Tottenham’s 100% start to the new Premier League season with a 2-1 win against Birmingham City at White Hart Lane.

Spurs dominated the proceedings and it took 72 minutes for substitute Peter Crouch to head in his first league goal for his new club, the visitors levelled just three minutes later through Lee Bowyer.

“We battered them and should have been out of sight by half-time. Crouch was terrific and could have scored three or four today, but we gave a terrible goal away which gave them heart.

“They came back strongly and looked as likely to win it as we were in the last 15 minutes. In the end it’s a great result and a great 12 points so far.

“However, Ledley has done his groin and we don’t know how long he will be out for yet, while Modric’s looked like a nasty injury on the side of the right calf.

“If we lose Ledley and Modric, with Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate already out, the squad is a bit short.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. If Luka is injured we will now 100% be getting a left midfielder.
As for King doing his groin, its looks likely now that we will get that Chavez bloke who Wilson recomended.

  2. Being only one goal up is never sufficient as the other team can equalise at any moment as Bowyer did for his team. We should have been one up at least in the first half when Defoe tried to score from a rather difficult angle instead of passing across to Keane who was unmarked and in a far better position to score. Some of our strikers tend to be a little selfish at times. Football is a team game. Credit to Lennon who saved the day for us as he did last week against West Ham.

  3. Twice in a row we’re heading for the first lost of the season and we managed to escape and stole 2 points instead of losing 2. Thanks again to Lennon. Next match against Man Utd at home will be a test for us. Win means we can rub shoulders with the Big 4. Draw means we’re still not good enough. Lose means the great start we had is JUST A FLASH IN A PAN. Luck is just not enough in this league. C’mon Harry, do your magic.

  4. Well done to the lads today another hard fought win. To "Papillon". You have just written the three most stupid remarks I have seen in a long time. Don't you belong down the road a bit its called the Emerites

  5. Yo Lightning Man, thanks for stating that my remarks were STUPID. Guess it takes one STUPID to understand one’s stupid remarks.

  6. Enough of the playground name-calling. If you make a mini-league of us and the ‘top four’ for last season, you get the following:

    Liverpool 17pts, Arsenal 11pts, Tottenham 10pts, Man U 9pts, Chelsea 5pts.

Which all tells you that form against the top four is pretty irrelevant to the final league standings. A win against Man U would be sensational, a draw decent and while a loss would be disappointing it should not damage our ‘top four’ aspirations.

  7. i agree with lighting smith…stupid comments papillon!!any way great result yesterday like arry said we should of had the game finished by half time the brummies just parked there bus in front of goal they defended well!!but we got wat we deserved well done boyz!!shame about luka looks like hes gona be out for a few months at least but why buy when we’ve got da santos who’s left sided and looked good the other night and even kean can play there,we even have `the option of calling ohara back so wer be fine there, defensively could be the problem with king out but i sure wer manage bring on the mancs!!!
