Redknapp worry over King future

Ledley King

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is concerned over Ledley King’s future.

The Spurs defender has not played for Spurs since 16th October due to a groin injury.

“He’s got a problem with his groin and I’m not sure, really,” the Spurs boss said. “I took a gamble with him on Wednesday night, but I don’t know.

“He’s got away with not training all week and playing on Saturday but I think it’s starting to catch up on him now. You can’t keep doing that for ever, you have to train.

“It’s crazy that you can not train once all week and then come in on a Saturday and be the best player.

“Now he’s finding it more difficult – suddenly he’s starting to pick up a few more injures.

“We’re just keeping our fingers crossed for him and Jonathan Woodgate, because they’re two fantastic centre-halves.

“We’re lucky that Michael Dawson has been brilliant and William Gallas has come in for us and done a great job for us as well.”

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I am a massive fan of ledley king but the less he plays the worse it is for the team. He’s supposed to be our captain. Time to give dawson the captaincy full-time and splash the cash on a centre half. Kjaer maybe? With woodgate a major doubt all the time and now king the same we cannot afford to rely on the likes of bassong and kaboul against bigger teams if Dawson picks up a knock. Our summer spending must consist of a centre half, a left back and a top notch striker. With sandro, palacios, thudd, modric, krancjaer, pienaar, Lennon, bale and van der vaart I would say our midfield is sorted.

  2. Uh…Paul…Kaboul is a freaking gladiator out there. He’s not quite as tall as Dawson or King, but he’s built like a truck and can handle himself physically against anyone. He was also perhaps our best defender this season before he went down, able to play both in the middle and out wide. We miss him a lot more than we miss King or Woodgate.

    • I second that. Good at set pieces too. Scored a crucial goal against Arsenal and in the champions league too I believe :) Get better soon Younes!

  3. Gallas and Dawson should be the 1st team centre halfs. Get rid of King, he is a good player but the money wasted on him is ridiculous.

  4. He's a role model for future generation but his time is up. Keep him in the coaching staff so he could with us longer.

    • This is the perfect solution. King's leadership contributions are undeniable, so retaining this would be wise. Is this something he would be interested in? Maybe not, he might feel he has more 1st team football to play yet in his career. Regardless, we need a prolific striker to make the water boil over the pot next season. With a Lisandro or Forlan we could become a far more potent title contender. Maybe add some Brazilian skill, in the forms of the technically proficient Nilmar or the flair and finish Neymar. Whatever Harry chooses, the man must have the pace to run past defenders-something we don't have in Crouch and Pavlyuchenko and only periodically from Defoe.

  5. King will ave a job for life at Spurs in whatever capacity, coaching being the obvious move but if he really cares for the club I think he needs to accept that his playing days are over. It's so unfortunate as if it weren't for his injury problems he would've been an England legend too. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication Ledders, you'll always hold a place in the hearts of the Spurs faithful.
