“Referee an absolute joke” – Ex-Spur did not mince his words about Anthony Taylor

Former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Darren Anderton was critical of referee Anthony Taylor for his performance in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal at Wembley.

Taylor found himself the subject of frustration from both sets of supporters for his questionable decision making.

The referee missed a nasty challenge after just twelve minutes on Harry Kane by Grant Xhaka, which should have seen the Swiss international sent off.

Spurs were wrongly awarded a penalty in the second half when Harry Kane was in an offside position from Christian Eriksen’s cross, yet a penalty was awarded when Mustafi bundled the striker over in the box from which he levelled the score.

The controversy did not end there, in the 89th minute he pointed to the spot again but this time in favour of Arsenal.

Taylor claimed that when substitute Aubameyang went down in the box under pressure from Sanchez it was enough to give the visitors the chance to win the match.

Thankfully a combination of heroics from Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen denied the striker.
