Referee revealed for Tottenham’s clash against Arsenal on Sunday

It has been confirmed that Martin Atkinson will be in charge of the all-important North London derby on Sunday.

While clashes between Tottenham and Arsenal always carry plenty of importance to the fans, the derby on Sunday is a particularly huge one, with the Lilywhites looking to consolidate their position at the top of the table and the Gunners look to relieve some pressure by moving up the table.

The fact that Atkinson will officiate the game is not a particularly good omen for Jose Mourinho’s side, with the club’s 1-0 opening day defeat against Everton being the last Spurs game that the 49-year was in charge of.

Spurs do not have a good record when matches are officiated by Atkinson, with the club having won just 19 of the 44 matches he has taken control of (transfermarkt.com).

Atkinson is not as trigger happy as some of the other Premier League referees, having handed 14 yellow cards, one red card and awarded just one penalty kick in the eight Premier League games that he has overseen this season.
