‘Remarkable’ midfielder reportedly wanted by Spurs hailed for his leadership qualities

RB Leipzig’s head of sport and development, Ralf Rangnick, has raved about the leadership qualities of Marcel Sabitzer, who is reportedly wanted by Tottenham when the transfer market reopens in the summer.

The midfielder scored twice against the Lilywhites last week as Leipzig thrashed Spurs 4-0 on aggregate in the Champions League round of sixteen. That brace took his tally to fifteen goals in all competitions so far this campaign (transfermarkt).

Sabitzer’s performance in the match earned rave reviews, with CalcioMercato reporting that Jose Mourinho was so impressed with the Austrian international that he’s asked Tottenham to bring him to North London in the summer.

However, Spurs are said to be facing competition from Arsenal for the 26-year-old’s signature.

Rangnick has now raved about Sabitzer’s qualities and believes he has developed considerably as a player since signing for Leipzig in the summer of 2014.

Speaking about the versatile midfielder, Rangick told BuliNews: “His development couldn’t have been any better. He has never liked to lose, which I absolutely believe is a positive thing. But he used to get a little too fired up.

“He has clearly changed for the better and has become a leader. The way he has developed his personality is remarkable. I’ve only rarely experienced something similar.”

Sabitzer will certainly give us a different option with his ability to ghost into the box. With Eriksen leaving and Dele struggling hit the same heights as a couple of years ago, goals from midfield are something we’ve lacked recently. However, we will certainly have a fight on our hands to land him as several clubs will likely be queuing up for his signature.
