Report: £13m-rated player may choose to leave Spurs due to club’s ‘bad season’

Tottenham Hotspur have not enjoyed much to celebrate throughout the 2019/20 season, despite achieving such highs last year, which could lead to £13m-rated defender, Jan Vertonghen, leaving the club.

Spurs made the Champions League Final for the first time in their history in 2019, enjoying a pulsating route to Madrid against the likes of Borussia Dortmund, Man City, and Ajax.

However, Tottenham were knocked out of the competition during the round of 16 this season when they faced RB Leipzig.

The Lilywhites were also defeated by relegation-battling Norwich City in the FA Cup, while being knocked out of the League Cup by Colchester, the then lowest-ranked side still in the competition.

Premier League form also left a lot to be desired, with Spurs currently sat in eighth position and seven-point away from Chelsea in the Champions League spots.

Not only this, but Spurs also parted ways with their long-term and popular manager, Mauricio Pochettino, who had guided them on an impressive journey over the past five years.

AS have now reported that, due to this ‘bad season’, Jan Vertonghen may choose not to renew his contract in North London, instead leaving on a free transfer in the summer (via Sport Witness).

However, it has been reported that the Belgian wants a long contract, high wages, and a big agent commission.
