Report: 20-year-old undergoing medical ahead of Spurs exit; buyback clause included

Kion Etete is having a medical ahead of sealing a permanent move to Cardiff City, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook on Twitter.

Etete had a breakthrough season in 2021/22, impressing on loan at Northampton Town during the first half of the campaign before also shinning at League One side Cheltenham after January.

The 20-year-old did not travel with the Tottenham squad for their pre-season tour to South Korea, and Wales Online reported this week that Cardiff had expressed interest in the striker after Spurs made him available for sale.

Crook has now taken to social media to reveal that Etete is having his medical before sealing a move to the Welsh club.

The journalist stated that the Bluebirds had saw off competition from other EFL sides to snap up the Tottenham man.

Crook also reported that Spurs will receive a fee of £500,000 from Cardiff for Etete and that the north London club have inserted a buy-back clause in the deal.

Spurs Web Opinion

It makes complete sense for Tottenham to insert a buy-back clause in the contract as Etete seemed to come of age during his loan spells at Northampton and Cheltenham last season.

Given that Troy Parrott and Dane Scarlett are both ahead of him in the pecking order, the 20-year-old did not have much of a chance of breaking into the Spurs first-team anytime soon.
