Report: 21-year-old is now expected to join Spurs or Arsenal this summer

According to The Sunday Mirror (3/4; page 71), Tottenham Hotspur or Arsenal are expected to win the race for Middlesbrough right-back Djed Spence this summer.

Spence’s impressive displays on loan at Nottingham Forest this campaign have shot him into the limelight, with several Premier League clubs thought to have their eye on the right-back.

Spurs reportedly saw an offer for the right-back knocked back by Middlesbrough at the end of the January transfer window (90min) while Liverpool and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest 21-year-old (Northern Echo).

The Evening Standard reported last week that Boro are resigned to losing the England Under-21 international this summer and he could be sold for a fee of just around £12m since his contract at the Riverside Stadium runs out in 2023.

The Mirror have now revealed that Spence looks bound for North London, stating that Spurs and Arsenal are leading the race for the right-back. However, the report adds that the Boro starlet is expected to cost around £20m this summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

I have a feeling that Conte will look to bring in an out-and-out winger and convert him into a wing-back, rather than pursuing someone like Spence or Lamptey.

I would not be surprised if Spurs reignite their interest in Traore, who has struggled to get much game time since his loan move to Barca.
