Arsenal also tried to sign Emerson Royal this summer but the Barcelona man prefered to join Tottenham instead, according to multiple sources.
According to reports, Spurs have agreed a €30m (£25.7m) fee with Barcelona for the transfer of Emerson, with the Lilywhites now holding talks on personal terms with the player’s entourage.
The 22-year-old showed plenty of promise at Real Betis over the last two seasons and his addition will certainly bolster Nuno Espirito Santo’s options at right-back.
Multiple sources are now reporting that Tottenham’s North London rivals, Arsenal, were also keen on snapping up Emerson.
Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol has stated that the right-back prefers to join Tottenham over Mikel Arteta’s men this summer.

This claim has also been backed up by Mundo Deportivo who report that the Gunners wanted the Barcelona star but the player rejected their advances in favour of a move to Spurs.
The report adds that Emerson’s move to Tottenham is ‘close to coming to fruition’ and Barcelona are looking for replacements for the right-back.

Given that Mundo Deportivo are also reporting that Barcelona are interested in Hector Bellerin, a swap deal with Arsenal for Emerson would have been easy for the Catalan club to do.
So, it looks like Paratici has been able to convince the 22-year-old to choose Spurs over the Gunners, although the two clubs’ current league positions would have certainly helped his case.
