Report: 22-year-old Spurs-linked midfielder expected to make £17.6m move

In what comes as a potential blow to Tottenham in their rumoured pursuit of Azzedine Ounahi, TyC Sports have revealed that the central midfielder is set to complete a move to Napoli.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with one Moroccan midfielder in Sofyam Amarbat over the last few weeks, with the Lilywhites said to be competing with the likes of Liverpool and Inter Milan for the Fiorentina star (Foot Mercato).

La Repubblica revealed earlier this week that Amrabat’s international teammate Ounahi, who also shone for Morocco at the World Cup, was on Spurs’ radar too, with the North London club alleged to have made contact with Angers over a deal for the 22-year-old.

However, TyC Sports have now suggested the midfielder is ‘one step away’ from signing for Napoli.

The report makes no mention of Spurs but reveals that both Barcelona and Atletico Madrid expressed an interest in Ounahi but it is the Serie A table-toppers who have seemingly won the race for the player, who is expected to make the switch to Naples in a deal worth €20m (£17.6m).

TyC Sports explain that Napoli are likely to loan out the Moroccan for the remainder of the season, potentially back to Angers or to either Lyon or Leicester City.

It is quite puzzling to see Spurs being linked with so many central midfielders over recent weeks when that position is arguably the one where we are least in need of reinforcements. That is particularly true if Spurs decide not to loan out Pape Sarr, which Conte hinted at on Wednesday.
