Report: 23-year-old is now Tottenham’s ‘top target’ if Harry Kane still leaves

Italian journalist Rudy Galetti has claimed that Jonathan David is Tottenham’s ‘top target’ to replace Harry Kane if the striker leaves North London.

Recent reports had suggested that Bayern Munich’s latest offer came to €100m (£86.3m) for Kane and the Bavarian were said to be optimistic about their chances of getting the deal over the line (Fabrizio Romano – YouTube).

Unfortunately for them, The Athletic revealed today that the bid was rejected by Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou admitted on Sunday that the club have made contingency plans in the event that the 30-year-old ends up departing (Football.London).

The print edition of Gazzetta dello Sport (01/08/23 as relayed by Sport Witness) reported last week that Spurs are ready to make a move for David if Kane does leave.

The report claimed that the Lilywhites hold a ‘strong interest’ in the Lille striker, who found the back of the net 26 times across all competitions last season.

David is now Spurs’ top target if Kane leaves

Galetti has now taken to social media to assert that the Canadian international is at the top of Tottenham’s wishlist to replace Kane.

The journalist stated that Lille would evaluate offers in the region of €50m-€60m (£42.9m- £51.7m) range for David, and added that the situation is now ‘evolving’.

David has quite similar characteristics to Richarlison and could serve as useful competition for the Brazilian.

With Tottenham now on the verge of completing the signing of Alejo Veliz, who has the characteristics of a traditional number nine, the club might be leaning towards David over someone like Dusan Vlahovic.

However, with the rejected bid today, it perhaps seems slightly more unlikely that Kane will leave at all now. Too early to celebrate just yet though.
