Report: 23-year-old is wary of PL return after difficult Tottenham spell

Football Insider have claimed that Jack Clarke is not keen on the idea of returning to the Premier League this month, given his previous struggles at Tottenham Hotspur.

Clarke has absolutely torn up League One and the Championship since swapping Spurs for Sunderland and the winger is now thought to be on the radar of several Premier League sides.

The Daily Mirror reported last week that West Ham United are keen to take the winger to the London Stadium, with the report adding that Tottenham would be owed 30 per cent of any fee that the Hammers spend on the player due to the sell-on clause they have.

Jack Clarke is wary about repeating Spurs struggles

Football Insider have now said that it is not only West Ham who want Clarke but also the likes of Brentford and Crystal Palace.

However, the report adds that the 23-year-old is worried about a move back to the Premier League following his wretched spell at Spurs.

It is explained that while the the Sunderland star is eager to prove himself in the top flight, he is fearful of making the wrong move and struggling for game time like he did at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Clarke seems like a confidence player who needs an arm around his shoulder and words of encouragement to be able to express himself on the pitch.

He did not get that at Spurs and the fact that the manager who signed him, Pochettino, was sacked months after the winger’s arrival, did not help his cause.

I would not be surprised if the 23-year-old turns down a Premier League move for the time being and reassesses the situation at the end of the season.
