Report: 23-year-old was ‘tempted’ by Tottenham’s advances this summer

Corriere dello Sport have revealed that Nicolo Zaniolo was tempted by the idea of joining Tottenham this summer but the winger is now fully focused on doing well for AS Roma.

Zaniolo was heavily linked with a move to Spurs all through the summer transfer window (CalcioMercato) but the winger ended up staying put at the Stadio Olimpico.

The 23-year-old’s current contract at the Italian capital runs until 2024 and 90 min reported earlier this week that the Giallorossi are not willing to offer the player the pay rise he is demanding.

Corriere have now provided an update on Zaniolo’s future and explained there is optimism regarding a new contract.

The report reveals that both Juventus and Spurs tried to sign the Roma star this summer, with the winger said to have been tempted by both clubs.

It is explained that, in the end, the Italy international was not sold only because Roma did not receive an attractive offer for the player.

However, Corriere assert that Zaniolo is a ‘different man’ following the closure of the transfer window and is fully committed to doing well for Roma.

Jose Mourinho’s side are expected to discuss a new contract with the players’ entourage over the coming weeks and months, and it is explained that the winger is now willing to commit his long-term future to the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

The latest reports coming out of Italy seem to suggest that Zaniolo is likely to sign a new deal at the Stadio Olimpico. However, if an agreement is not reached between the two parties by January, one would think that Roma would be open to listening to offers for the 23-year-old in the next transfer window.
