Report: 25-year-old Spurs star wants to return to former club

According to a report by Fichajes.net, Giovani Lo Celso wants to return to Real Betis amid his struggles at Tottenham.

Lo Celso had a brilliant 2018/19 campaign at Betis which convinced Spurs to bring the Argentine international to the Premier League.

However, barring the later part of the midfielder’s first season at North London, he has struggled to get a consistent run in the starting eleven, partly due to frequent injuries.

The 25-year-old is yet to start a single match under Antonio Conte, having been out of action since picking up a knee problem while on international duty with Argentina last month.

Conte confirmed earlier this week that Lo Celso is now back in training but the midfielder still seemingly faces an uphill battle to force himself into the Italian’s starting eleven.

Fichajes now claim that Lo Celso is keen on returning to the Benito Villamarin Stadium – the place where he was thought to be the ‘happiest’.

However, the report explains that Betis would find an operation to re-sign the midfielder to be difficult owing to their financial problems, with a loan deal said to be the most realistic option at the moment.

However, it is said that the La Liga club might be able to afford the Tottenham man if they cash in on Victor Camarasa or Andres Guardado.

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Lo Celso is likely to leave in January as Conte and his coaching staff have not had enough time to asses the Argentine on the training pitch.

However, unless the 25-year-old manages to keep himself fit and impress in the second half of the campaign, he could be on his way out next summer.
