Report: 26-year-old rejected life-changing contract offered by Spurs in January

Mundo Deportivo claim that Adama Traore rejected a life-changing contract from Tottenham Hotspur to seal a return to Barcelona in January.

Traore was thought to be Spurs’ first-choice target for the right wing-back role in January but, according to The Athletic, the pacy wide man snubbed the North Londoners’ approach in favour of a move to Barca.

The report revealed that the 26-year-old was not keen on the prospect of playing as a right wing-back.

Mundo Depertivo have now claimed that Tottenham’s negotiations with Wolves for Traore were very advanced before Barcelona entered the pictured.

It is explained that the Spain international ‘was practically closing the agreement’ with the Lilywhites but everything changed when he heard of the interest from the Catalan giants.

The report further adds that Spurs offered Traore a ‘great contract that definitely solved his life’ but the winger stopped the negotiations with the Premier League club when his former club expressed their interest.

It is asserted that ‘it took very little’ for Xavi Hernandez’s side to convince Traore to return to the Camp Nou.

Even though Barca are not in a great predicament at the moment, Traore clearly has a special connection with the club, having come through their youth set-up. So, Spurs seemingly never stood a chance once the Catalan side entered the picture for the 26-year-old.
