Report: 26-year-old Spurs man will have to find a new club in the summer

Estadio Deportivo have claimed that Sergio Reguilon does not have a future at Tottenham Hotspur or Atletico Madrid, and the left-back will have to find a new club at the end of the season.

Reguilon’s loan spell at Atletico has not gone according to plan, with the Spaniard missing almost the entirety of the first part of the campaign due to a groin injury.

The 26-year-old has made five appearances for the club since returning to fitness but he suffered another injury blow this week, with Marca reporting that the former Real Madrid man is now expected to be sidelined for at least one more month after picking up a thigh injury.

Estadio Deportivo now state that Diego Simeone has ‘little confidence’ in Reguilon while Atletico have ‘lost all hope’ that he is the player they need at left-back.

In addition, it is asserted that he is also not part of Antonio Conte’s plans at Tottenham, with the North London club already informing him that he has no future at the club.

Reguilon is thus expected to look for a new club in the summer and the publication suggests that a return to Sevilla could be on the cards for the player as the Andalusian club showed some interest in him last summer.

If Reguilon can put his fitness problems behind him, I have no doubt that plenty of La Liga clubs would show interest in the left-back, given how well he did at Sevilla during the 2019-20 season.

However, it looks like Tottenham would have little choice but to send him out on loan again next season as I do not think any club would risk paying a transfer fee for the 26-year-old in the summer, given his recent injury woes.
