Report: 28-year-old rumoured Spurs target could be available for just £7.5m

The Athletic have revealed that West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who is reportedly on Tottenham’s radar could be available for as little as £7.5m this summer.

Hugo Lloris will enter the final 12 months of his contract with Spurs in the summer and it has been reported that the goalkeeper is unlikely to sign a new contract with the North Londoners.

Reports indicate that a return to France is on the cards for the goalkeeper, with Pairs Saint-Germain and his former club Nice both being mooted as potential destinations for the Tottenham man.

Johnstone, who has impressed in his first taste of Premier League football this season, is reportedly one of the shot-stoppers that Tottenham are eyeing as a potential replacement for their captain.

The 28-year-old was rewarded for his fine form for the Baggies with his first England call up for last month’s World Cup qualifiers.

The Athletic report that West Brom could sell their number one for a cut-price deal in the summer if they are relegated.

With Johnstone’s contract running out in 2022, it is said that the club could accept an offer somewhere between £7.5m and £10m for the goalkeeper.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe that Lloris will stay at Spurs and pen a contract extension with the club. However, that does not mean that we will not be in the market for a goalkeeper.

Not only do we need a potential number 2/number 3 if Gazzaniga leaves but we also need to plan for a long-term successor for Lloris. So, I would not rule out Spurs from making an offer for Johnstone.
