Report: 29-year-old Spanish international keen to join Spurs in the summer

According to The Daily Mirror, Tottenham have been alerted to the potential availability of Lucas Vazquez in the summer, with the Real Madrid man keen to male the move to North London.

It was previously reported that Tottenham were looking to snap up Vazquez on a free transfer in the summer when his contract with Real Madrid runs out.

Sources from Spain revealed that negotiations between the 29-year-old and Madrid had hit a roadblock, with the La Liga giants not prepared to offer the pay rise he is looking for.

The Daily Mirror now claims that negotiations have now completely halted after Vazquez rejected a three-year deal from Los Blancos with a 10 per cent reduction in wages.

It is said that the player has instructed his representatives to find him a club in the Premier League, with Spurs being sounded out by his agent.

It is said that Arsenal have also been notified about Vazquez’s availability but the experienced wide-man would prefer to reunite with Jose Mourinho, who he previously played under at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Given that there are massive question marks regarding Mourinho’s future at Spurs, it remains to be seen if Vazquez would be keen to come to the club if the Portuguese coach is no longer in charge.

The 29-year-old had demonstrated this season that he has the ability to be a very useful wing-back and with Spurs likely to be in the market for a right-back, singing a player of Vazquez’s quality on a free transfer could be a very appealing proposition for the club.
