Report: 29-year-old Spurs-linked defender likely to remain at his club this summer

German publication Frankfurter Rundschau have claimed that Filip Kostic, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, is set to stay at Eintracht Frankfurt this summer.

Tottenham have strengthened at left wing-back with the addition of Ivan Perisic, who was the first player to arrive through the door at Hotspur Way this summer.

The Croat is expected to battle for a place in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven with Ryan Sessegnon, who had a strong end to the 2021/22 season.

Before Perisic’s signing, some publications reported that Kostic was another name on Antonio Conte’s wishlist for the left wing-back role (Fichajes.net and Football.London)

The Evening Standard even suggested a little over a month ago that Tottenham’s capture of Perisic may not rule out a move for Kostic as the Croat is also able to operate further forward or at right wing-back.

However, in what comes as a potential blow to Spurs, Frankfurter Rundschau have now revealed that the Serbian is expected to stay at Deutsche Bank Park for at least one more season.

The report adds that Juventus have not yet substantiated their interest in Kostic, and as things, the 29-year-old is expected to remain at Frankfurt until his contract ends in 2023.

Spurs Web Opinion

I believe Spurs were eyeing Kostic as a backup option in case a deal for Perisic did not materialise. Conte likely views the Croat as his first choice for the left wing-back role, and so, once he arrived through the door, the club would have ended their interest in the Frankfurt star.
