Report: 31-goal striker is no longer a top priority for Tottenham this summer

CaughtOffside have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are now looking beyond Porto’s Mehdi Taremi as they hunt for a replacement for Harry Kane.

There have been plenty of stories over the last 48 hours regarding how Tottenham will go about replacing Kane, with some outlets suggesting that the Lilywhites could go for a young, up-and-coming striker to supplement Richarlison (The Athletic).

One player who has been linked with a move to Spurs who does not fit that profile is Taremi, with reports suggesting that the North London side are keeping an eye on the Iran international’s situation (Sacha Tavolieri).

The 31-year-old has posted some outstanding numbers since his move to Portuguese football four years ago and he finished the 2022-23 campaign with a whopping 45 goal contributions (31 goals and 14 assists).

Taremi is no longer a priority for Tottenham

CaughtOffisde have now reported that while Taremi was part of the shortlist compiled by Spurs’ recruitment team, a move for the experienced striker has now been put ‘on the back burner’.

It is alleged that Tottenham no longer consider the Porto star a top priority and are instead exploring other market opportunities.

Spurs Web Opinion

From the start, I was always sceptical about the suggestion that Spurs could move for Taremi. Paying £30m plus for a 31-year-old with no re-sale value is not the type of move that Tottenham have historically made while it is no secret that Postecoglou also prefers working with younger players.
