Report: 31-year-old offered chance to return to PL just months after Spurs exit

Journalist Jorge Nicola has revealed that former Tottenham winger Lucas Moura was offered a chance to return to the Premier League in January.

Moura’s five-and-a-half-year spell at Tottenham came to an end last summer when his contract ran out and the Brazilian subsequently signed a short-term deal with his boyhood club, Sao Paulo, which runs until next summer (Transfermarkt).

The 31-year-old has established himself as a key player for the side this season, having featured across several attacking positions.

Offers from England for Lucas Moura

Nicola has now revealed on his Youtube channel (as relayed by Sport Witness) that Moura was offered a chance to return to the Premier League in January.

The journalist claims that two English top-flight clubs were ready to sign Brazil international in next month’s transfer window but the player turned down both approaches.

Nicola explains that this is because Moura is having a ‘honeymoon’ phase with Sao Paulo and is now already in advanced talks with the club over signing a new contract.

Spurs Web Opinion

I was quite surprised that a club in Europe’s top-five leagues did not pick up Moura in the summer as he still has a lot to offer at the highest level. However, it seems like the 31-year-old is over the moon with his decision to return to Brazil and is loving life back in Sao Paulo.
