Report: 43-year-old manager feels Spurs job offer ‘came too early for him’

Football Insider have revealed that Roberto De Zerbi has rejected the chance to join Tottenham Hotspur as he wants to stay for at least one more season at Brighton.

Roberto De Zerbi was once mooted as one of the front-runners for the Spurs job, with the North London club said to have been impressed by the work he has done at the Amex Stadium since replacing Graham Potter last October (The Daily Express).

Football Insider have now asserted that Tottenham did show ‘strong interest’ in the Italian over recent months as they were looking at various candidates to replace Antonio Conte.

The publication alleges that the Lilywhites made a ‘strong push’ for De Zerbi but the 43-year-old had no intention of leaving the Amex Stadium this summer.

It is asserted that the former Sassuolo boss felt that the Tottenham job came a year too early for him and that he would like to gain more experience with the Seagulls before making a step up to a Champions League calibre club.

De Zerbi was always my number one preference even ahead of Pochettino and Nagelsmann as the Italian appears to be the complete package.

I suspect that Tottenham would have only moved on to other targets such as Slot after testing the waters for the Brighton boss and learning that he had no intention of leaving the club this summer.
