Report: 44-year-old remains ‘firm outside contender’ for Tottenham job

The Daily Express have described Arne Slot as a ‘firm outside contender’ for the Tottenham job, with the Feyenoord boss thought to have admirers at the North London club.

The report states that Spurs are expected to wait until the end of the season to confirm their next head coach.

Daniel Levy is said to be adopting a patient approach to the managerial search as there is a sense at the club that a change in strategy is required to achieve long-term stability and success.

Slot is alleged to be one of the names on Spurs’ shortlist as some at the club have a ‘lingering feeling of regret’ that they chose against appointing Erik Ten Hag back in 2021 in light of the work he has done at Old Trafford.

The report explains that the Feyenoord boss has several admirers in the Spurs boardroom, owing to the eye-catching brand of possession-based football that he has adopted at De Kuip.

The publication adds that Slot’s ‘defensive coaching principles, philosophy, expansive style of play and savvy man-management’ have made him a ‘genuine contender’ for the Tottenham hot seat.

The Dutchman is said to have rejected an approach from Leeds United in early February and the 44-year-old could receive a phone call from Spurs in the near future.

Spurs Web Opinion

While it is certainly understandable that Slot is on Tottenham’s radar, given the impressive work he has done at Rotterdam, I suspect that Spurs view him more as a backup option than as a top contender.

As things stand, it appears as if Nagelsmanna and Enrique are the two names at the top of the club’s wishlist.
