Report: 45-year-old manager stalls on new contract amid Tottenham links

90 min have revealed that Fulham’s efforts to tie down Marco Silva to a new contract have now stalled amidst interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Silva is one of several Premier League managers who is thought to be on Spurs’ wishlist to succeed Antonio Conte, alongside Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi, Brentford’s Thomas Frank and Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper (The Athletic).

Silva has done a commendable job since taking over at Craven Cottage in 2021.

Not only did the Portuguese coach help the club win promotion to the top flight last season but the Cottagers have outperformed all expectations on their return to the Premier League, currently sitting ninth in the table.

90 min explain that with the former Watford and Everton boss’ current contract at Fulham running out in 2024, the West London club are keen to tie him down to a new contract.

However, upon the news of Spurs’ emerging interest in Silva’s services, it is asserted that the negotiations between the parties have now completely stalled.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can argue that among the four Premier League managers who have been mooted as candidates for the Tottenham job, Silva’s CV is the least impressive.

To me, De Zerbi seems like the outstanding candidate for the job but it remains to be seen if the Italian will leave Brighton less than 12 months after taking over.
