Report: 47-year-old manager pushing strongly for Tottenham job

Football Insider have revealed that Roberto Martinez is making a ‘huge play’ for the Tottenham Hotspur job behind the scenes.

Martinez is one of a number of coaches across Europe who has been linked with the vacancy in North London over the past few weeks.

Football.London’s Alasdair Gold stated earlier this week that Spurs have narrowed down their search to a shortlist and that the Belgian boss is one of the candidates who is still in the running to replace Jose Mourinho.

Football Insider claim that Martinez is keen on a return to the Premier League and is now pushing hard for the Tottenham job.

The report adds that Spurs have made contact with the 47-year-old, who is now one of the leading contenders for the role.

It is revealed that the former Everton and Swansea boss has outlined to Spurs why he would be a great fit for the job and that his enthusiasm has caught the attention of the North London club’s hierachy.

The Spaniard is reportedly ready to quit the Belgium post after this summer’s European Championship if he is offered the role.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is understandable why Martinez would be enthusiastic about the prospect of taking over at Spurs as he is not likely to get a big job in the Premier League anytime soon after the way things ended for him at Everton. While Martinez has done a good job with Belgium, there is nothing in his CV to suggest that he would be up for the job to get us back competing at the top end of the league on a tight budget.
