Report: 49-year-old manager fits the bill for Tottenham as Conte replacement

The Daily Mirror have claimed that Thomas Tuchel does fit the bill for the kind of manager Tottenham want to replace Antonio Conte.

Tuchel has been out of work since last September after being sacked by Chelsea’s new ownership and replaced with Graham Potter.

The Athletic reported two weeks ago that the German is likely to be one of the names on Fabio Paratici’s shortlist to replace Conte at the helm.

The publication suggested, however, that the 49-year-old will want to wait and see if other jobs open up as he is aware that he is likely to be Bayern Munich and Real Madrid’s top choice if either Julian Nagelsmann or Carlo Ancelotti leave this summer.

Journalist Ben Jacobs subsequently TEAMtalk last week that even though Tottenham rate Tuchel highly, they do not see him as being a good fit for the kind of project they want to build at the club.

This has now been contradicted by The Daily Mirror, who have suggested that the former Chelsea boss does fit the profile of the manager Spurs are looking for.

The publication also adds that Tuchel himself might be open to the challenge as he fancies taking up another job within the Premier League.

Spurs Web Opinion

While one can certainly understand why Tuchel would be in consideration for the job, I believe that the club will be making a mistake by going after another big-name manager who is focused on delivering immediate success.

Tottenham need a long-term project manager who can build for the future and bring everyone at the club together and I believe Robert De Zerbi would be the best man for the job if Spurs decide against rehiring Pochettino.
