Report: 51-year-old close to joining Spurs after Levy presents lucrative offer

According to a report from La Stampa (as translated by The Metro), Antonio Conte is close to taking over as the next Tottenham manager.

Conte may have led Inter Milan to a historic Scudetto but his future at the San Siro seems far from certain.

Previous reports from Italy have indicated that the former Chelsea boss could resign after the Inter owners have insisted that the players and the coaching staff take pay cuts to help the club steer through the financial impact of the pandemic.

La Stampa now report that Conte could be on his way to Tottenham, with the Premier League club making a big push for the 51-year-old’s signature.

It is revealed that Spurs have offered the Italian a salary of around £17million-a-year, considerably higher than the £11m-a-year he is on at the moment.

The North Londoners have reportedly also promised Conte significant investment into the squad this summer.

The report claims that Conte considers Tottenham’s proposal to be a convincing one, having enjoyed living in London during his time at Stamford Bridge.

While Conte’s style of play might not perfectly align with what Levy might be looking for, the Italian is considerably more qualified than any of the other names we have been linked with so far. So, I can certainly see Levy pulling all stops to bring in the 51-year-old.

However, it is also quite possible that Conte’s representatives have leaked this to the press and are hoping to get the best possible terms at Inter by using Tottenham’s interest to strengthen their bargaining position.
