Report: A hero of Tottenham’s Champions League campaign looks set for Lazio move

Mauricio Pochettino made a number of changes to his Tottenham Hotspur squad this summer both with arrivals and departures.

While the likes of Michel Vorm, Vincent Janssen and Josh Onomah headed out of the club, one player’s departure was shrouded in some mystery.

Fernando Llorente’s contract expired at the end of the previous campaign and there was no official confirmation from the club regarding his departure, with his profile being removed from the club’s official website.

The striker was one of the club’s heroes in the latter stages of the Champions League campaign having scored against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City along with playing a pivotal role during the second half of the semi-final second leg in Amsterdam.

The 34-year-old was recently spotted with Sevilla B’s squad as he looks to maintain his fitness.

Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport are reporting that the former Juventus player is nearing a return to Italy with a move to Lazio looking as if it could materialise.

Opinion

The way Spurs dealt with Llorente’s exit was certainly disappointing as it robbed the fans the opportunity to thank the forward for his efforts. Hopefully, he will go on to enjoy similar success at his next club.
