A rather surprising guest was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Monday night to witness the enthralling encounter with Chelsea – former managing director, Fabio Paratici.
Having joined the club in the summer of 2021, Paratici was integral to many changes at Spurs over the last couple of years.
The Italian helped to hire Antonio Conte, as well as pushing through the signings of the likes of Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Cristian Romero.
However, his past caught up with him, when Paratici was found guilty of being involved in Juventus’ financial scandal. Paratici received a 30-month global ban from football back in April, and left his post at Tottenham shortly after.
However, Paratici was still allowed to serve as a consultant to the North London club during his ban.
Special guests at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Tottenham Hotspur welcomed back one of their own for the London derby against Chelsea last night in Gareth Bale, but it wasn’t just the Welshman who was spotted in the stands for the big game.
According to the Daily Mail, Paratici was seen to be “in attendance” at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, too.
It was reported as recently as October that Paratici was still working as a consultant for Spurs (Athletic), despite leaving his formal post at the club. However, many assumed his connection would end following the hiring of Johan Lange and Rob Mackenzie.
It is unknown why exactly Paratici was there, and whether he was at the stadium in a professional or personal capacity.
Unfortunately, Paratici had to witness one of his recommended signings, Romero, contribute to Tottenham’s capitulation with a foolish red card.
Spurs Web Opinion
I’m sure there is nothing to read into Paratici’s presence at the game. It’s a big match that anyone would love to attend, and I’m guessing he simply fancied watching it live. I would say I wish I could have been there, but I don’t think I could have handled the stress.
