Report: AC Milan and Bayer Leverkusen enter race for rumoured Spurs target

Any hope which Tottenham Hotspur may have harboured over signing Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey may have become more complicated.

The 22-year-old has been deployed at both centre back and as a defensive midfielder has impressed during his debut campaign in the top flight despite being unable to help the Canaries beat the drop back to he Championship at the first attempt.

The Express claimed in February that Jose Mourinho had targeted a summer move for the England Under-21 international (Express).

It was previously reported that Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig were both eyeing a move for the defender (Sun).

Sky Sports now claim that Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan also keen on his signature.

It is revealed that representatives from Milan have already held talks with the Norwich player’s representatives while Leverkusen are expected to hold talks with his entourage later this week after Kai Havertz completes a move to Chelsea.

It is claimed that the Bundesliga side have made Godfrey a key target this summer, with the Canaries said to be valuing him at £30million.

Spurs Web Opinion

We have been linked with several versatile central defenders, who can also play in the pivot and Godfrey fits that profile. Perhaps Jose wants to fill the hole left in the squad following Eric Dier’s transition to centre-half. Given that we are short in several areas across the pitch and our transfer budget is limited, it is perhaps not surprising that we would be looking for versatile squad players who can cover for multiple positions.
